Your property is assessed by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC). Your property assessment reflects the market value of your property – the amount it would likely have sold for on the open market – as of the valuation date, January 1, 2016. It also shows the type of property you own, as well as school support designation information.
MPAC can help you with your property assessment:
- Check information about your property on AboutMyProperty.ca .
- Order a copy of your assessment from the MPAC website. You can contact MPAC by phone 1 866 296-6722 or TTY at 1 877 889-6722.
- You can request a reassessment if you think your property value is too high when compared with similar properties. Your new assessment can be applied to the current year if the request is made before March 31.
I made improvements to my Property - will I get a tax bill?
If you recently built or renovated, you will have added value to your property, and MPAC will re-assess your property. Once Neebing receives the revised property value from MPAC, we send you a supplemental tax bill. Supplemental property taxes may be back-dated up to three years - to the occupancy date or completion of your improvement.
What if I wish to change my school support designation information?
MPAC has an online school support portal that enables residential property owners to add or update their school support designation information throught the AboutMyProperty.ca website. A guide is posted alongside the portal, which provides users with astep-by-step instructions on how to change or update their school support designation. The guide is available in both English and French.
What happens to my Property Assessment if I open a home-based business?
Your property tax classification might change depending on the type of business you are planning to open. Different tax classifications have different tax rates, so your property taxes may change.
MPAC assesses and classifies properties based on rules set by the Government of Ontario.
You can contact MPAC to ask whether your business activity will affect your assessment.
