Neebing FireSmart Plan
Welcome to the Municipality of Neebing FireSmart page! As part of our commitment to community safety, we have developed a comprehensive FireSmart plan to reduce the risk of wildland fire in and around our community. This plan outlines key strategies to protect homes, infrastructure, and natural resources. Below, you will find an overview of the plan, recommendations for residents, useful resources, and related legislation.
Overview of the FireSmart Plan:
The FireSmart Plan for Neebing aims to enhance community resilience to wildland fires through proactive measures. These include:
Fuel Reduction: Encouraging property owners to clear and manage vegetation around their homes.
FireSmart Building Practices: Ensuring future developments follow FireSmart guidelines, including fire-resistant materials and proper spacing from forested areas.
Community Engagement: Promoting public awareness through education and outreach programs.
FireSmart Committee: Forming a local committee to oversee the implementation and promotion of FireSmart practices in the municipality.
Emergency Planning: Preparing for potential evacuations and other emergency situations in the event of wildland fire.
Key Recommendations for Residents:
How resilient to wildland fire is your home and property? FireSmart begins at home. Start with a Self-Assessment of your property then consider implementing the recommended actions. To help protect your property and the community from wildland fire risk, we encourage you to follow all of these FireSmart guidelines:
Clear Vegetation: Maintain a 30-meter defensible space around your home. This includes removing dead branches, leaves, and any flammable debris near your house. View the Home Ignition Zone poster for more information and the Landscaping Guide for tips on what to plant.
Use Fire-Resistant Materials: Consider using fire-resistant building materials, such as metal roofs and fire-resistant siding, for new buildings or renovations. View the Home Development Guide for more information.
Ladder Fuels: Trim branches within two meters of the ground and avoid having flammable vegetation close to structures.
Storage Safety: Store firewood and other flammable materials at least 10 meters away from buildings.
Install Sprinkler Systems: Consider installing an outdoor sprinkler system to keep vegetation damp during high-risk periods.
