Volunteer for your Community!

The end of the term of the current Municipal Council is November 14th, 2026. This also marks the end of the term for the various volunteer committees in Neebing.  Consider serving your community by joining a committee. 

The next term for committee members will be from November 15, 2026 until November 14, 2030. By-law 2016-022 contains the terms of reference for each committee. Committee members will be formally appointed after the new Council is sworn in following the municipal election.

Neebing participates on boards and committees for other organizations. Click on each one listed below for more details.

Neebing's Representative: Councillor Brian Wright

The Lakehead OPP Detachment Board represents communities within the Thunder Bay OPP Detachment Area. The Board is made up of one elected official from each of the following seven (7) communities, as well as three (3) Provincial representatives and three (3) community representatives;

Neebing's Representative:  Mayor Mark Thibert and Deputy Mayor Brian Wright as a back up.

The LRMC was formed to consider issues common to the six rural communities surrounding the City of Thunder Bay. Member municipalities include the Township of Conmee, Township of Gillies and Township of O’Connor, Municipality of Neebing, Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge and the Municipality of Shuniah. The Reeve or Mayor and a senior administration staff member from each municipality meet regularly to discuss issues affecting the rural municipalities and to determine courses of action.

The LRMC generally meets every two months.

Neebing's Representative:  Councillor Brian Kurikka

The LRCA is governed by a 11-member Board of Directors who are appointed by LRCA’s Member Municipalities. The Board of Directors is responsible for policy and financial oversight.

The number of representatives appointed as Members of the LRCA Board of Directors are based on population as outlined in subsection 2(2) of the Conservation Authorities Act.

The Board of Directors also sits as the Source Protection Authority and Hearing Board Members for all Hearings held under Section 28 of the Conservation Authorities Act.

Neebing's Representative: Councillor Gordon Cuthbertson

The Lakehead Rural Planning Board provides planning services for the Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge, the Municipality of Neebing, Conmee Township, O’Connor Township, the Township of Gillies and the unincorporated Townships of Gorham, Ware and Dawson Road Lots 1-20.

Neebing's Representative: Mayor Mark Thibert

This seat is shared with the Township of Gillies. Neebing has appointed a representative for this term of Council. Gillies will appoint a representative for the 2026-2030 term of Council.

The Thunder Bay District Board of Health has 14 members and is largely made up of elected representatives from the local municipal councils. The board has 12 municipal members (Ontario Regulation 559, Section 27) and 2 positions appointed by the Lieutenant Governor General (provincial appointee). The Thunder Bay District Municipal League considers issues that are local in nature and particularly applicable to the seventeen member municipalities.

Issues of a broader nature concerning the three districts (Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay) in the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) are forwarded for their consideration.

Neebing's Representative:  Gordon Cuthbertson

This seat is shared with the Township of Conmee. Neebing has appointed a representative for this term of Council. Conmee will appoint a representative for the 2026-2030 term of Council.

The TBDSSAB Board of Directors consists of fourteen members who are elected officials. Board members are chosen by their own municipal councils to serve on the Board to represent areas defined in the District Social Services Administration Board Act, O. Reg 278/98 as amended by O. Reg 109.17DSSAB members representing areas within Territories Without Municipal Organization (TWOMO) are selected by qualified electors of that territory through an election for a four-year term, and are directly elected by TWOMO residents/property owners.

Neebing's Representatives:  Gerrit Bakker and Tim Janssens

Council has opted to appoint two members of the farming community rather than elected officials.

The Thunder Bay Veterinary Services Committee is formed under the Veterinary Assistance Program is to help promote the viability of the livestock industry by ensuring access to large animal veterinary services in the Program area. Participating veterinarians receive funding assistance towards the costs of providing veterinary services for livestock, including travel, continuing education, conferences and locum assistance.

The Thunder Bay Veterinary Services Committee consists of two elected representatives
from each municipality and organization who contribute towards the $1,000 enrollment
fee for a participating veterinarian.
